Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kattupakkam, started in 01.06.1985, is functioning under the Directorate of Extension Education. This center is located at Potheri which is about 17 kms from Tambaram on the GST- NH 47 highways. The centre gets 100 percent financial assistance from Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.

  • Collaborate with specialists of State Agricultural Universities / scientists of Regional Research Stations and the State extension personnel in refining and documenting technologies for developing region-specific, sustainable land use systems.
  • Organize training to update the extension personnel with emerging advances due to agricultural research.
  • Organize long term vocational training courses in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and allied vocations for the rural youth with emphasis on 'Learning by doing' for generating self-employment and also organizing training for practicing farmers, farm youth, unemployed rural youth and self help groups.
  • Organize front-line demonstration on Agriculture, Animal husbandry and allied enterprises to generate production data and feed back information.

  • Conducting production oriented, need-based, short and long duration training courses both on and off-campus.
  • Organizing non-formal educational programmes such as exhibitions, mass contact programmes and field days.
  • Developing and maintaining the campus demonstration units.
  • Implementing the schemes of ICAR such as Front Line Demonstration and On Farm Testing.
